About Us
In an effort to offer support to adoptive families, MENTOR’s Family Intervention Team provides crisis intervention services to adoptive families. The Intervention Team provides early intervention services to families to encourage creative problem solving, productive interaction skills, and increase self-competence to build up the family.
The mission of the Family Intervention Team or F.I.T. is to facilitate a discovery of existing family strengths and talents for the purpose of empowering the family unit for positive growth within their home and community.
Team Leaders and Intervention Specialists in Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah and Macon provide statewide family assessments within the home. By working in mobile teams of two, support can be provided to both the child(ren) and families building productive bonds, increase community supports, assist in problem solving and provide hope.
Accessing Services
The decision to refer to the Family Intervention Team should be made by the County Department of Family & Children Services or Private Agency providing post placement or post adoption services to the family. The supervising worker for the family should complete the Family Intervention Team Referral form which can be found on the DHS website under Adoption Services, Policy & Forms, Intervention Team Referral Form and fax it to the Social Services Administration Unit (SSAU) at (404) 463-3735. The Social Services Administration Unit will arrange for Intervention Team services. Once the referral has been made, an immediate telephone consultation will be made with the referring case manager and telephone contact will be made with the family.
